1.   Why are you interested in serving on the Iowa Association of County Extension Councils Board of Directors?

In the two years that I have been on the county Extension Council, I have really learned a lot about ISU extension.  I have seen several means of reaching out to help residents of the county.  One of my goals as a Board member would be to create more awareness about the services and programs offered by ISU Extension.

2.   What contributions do you feel you could make to this association?

I have worked as a commissioner on the Soil and Water Conservation District.  I also worked as a Liaison Engineer for John Deere prior to retirement.  In this role I had to communicate with a lot of personnel throughout the U.S. and Europe.  These roles have strengthened my communication skills and my ability to work as a team player.

3.   What types of experiences have you had on your extension council?

I am currently vice chairman on our extension council.  Also during the last 5 months, we have been going through a major re-model of our Extension building.  I have served as the leader of the construction committee during this process.  We have also just gone through the interviewing and hiring process for a new county director.

4.    Please tell us briefly about yourself.

My wife (Julie) and I have lived in the Tripoli area most of our lives.  I have been actively farming for about 30 years.  I also worked for John Deere for 28 years.  I retired from John Deere two years ago.  I am currently a commissioner for the soil and water conservation district.

We have two daughters, one son, and three grandchildren.  My hobbies are hunting and fishing.

1.  Why are you interested in serving on the Iowa Association of County Extension Councils’ Board of Directors?

I am interested in serving on the Iowa Association of County Extension Councils' Board of Directors because I strongly believe in the value provided County Extensions.

I would like to be in a position to represent the needs, sometime the unique needs, of the County Extensions in Northeast Iowa.  Northeast Iowa has some unique issues regarding climate, topography, and per capita income relative to other parts of Iowa.

2.  What contributions do you feel you could make to this association?

As a retired Employment Manager, I have the time to invest, and the experience in the areas of working with organizations and teams, developing and giving presentations to directors and boards, recruiting, lobbying, developing and implementing salary administration programs, and negotiating with labor unions.  Previous work experiences include high school teacher, quality assurance manager, line supervisor, and engineering technician.  I am an experienced master gardener with living experiences on a farm and in the city.  I offer this diverse background as a basis for consideration of this position.

3.  What types of experiences you have had on your extension council?

My responsibilities on the Allamakee County Extension Council began on January 1, 2007.  I am currently secretary for our council.

I have been on the 28E Consumer Horticulture Council for two years.  This council represents seven counties in Northeast Iowa for Horticulture Programs.  I am also currently the secretary for this council.

4.  Please tell us briefly about yourself.

I grew up on a farm in Missouri and now my husband and I have retired and live on a farm in Allamakee County.

I have been a gardener all my life and have been a Master Gardener for the last 10 years.  I was an active member of the Scott County Master Gardening program for seven years before moving to Allamakee County.

I am familiar with many parts of Iowa because I have lived and/or worked in Woodbury, Page, Linn, Polk, Scott, and Allamakee Counties.

I am active in church and local politics.

1.  Why are you interested in serving on the Iowa Association of County Extension Councils’ Board of Directors?

In the two years I have served on my county’s Extension Council, I’ve had the benefit of seeing first hand the positive impact ISU Extension has on the residents in my county.  My goal as a Board member would be to perpetuate that influence and to create more awareness about the services and programs offered by ISU Extension.

2.  What contributions do you feel you could make to this association?

I worked in the Iowa Legislature for several years and during that time gained important knowledge on fiscal policy and the budgeting process.  I’ve served on many boards and committees in my county as well, that have strengthened my abilities as an advocate and as a team player.

3.  What types of experiences you have had on your extension council?

I am currently the Treasurer and Legislative Liaison on our council.  I also serve on the Personnel Committee.

4.  Please tell us briefly about yourself.

I’ve lived in North Iowa all my life, residing in Clear Lake for the past 10 years.  I work for Niman Ranch, a niche-market, free-range pork company.  I’m very politically active and have managed several campaigns across the state over the years.  I’m also a member of the Iowa Farmer’s Union.
