1.  Why are you interested in serving on the Iowa Association of County Extension Councils’ Board of Directors?

I want to get more involved in Extension Council work.

2.  What contributions do you feel you could make to this association?

My two children were in 4-H and I enjoyed that time – they have now graduated and I want to stay active in the 4-H activities and Extension work.

3.  What types of experiences you have had on your extension council?

I have only been on the Council for one year, but have really enjoyed my time.  I am now vice-chairman of the Council.

4.  Please tell us briefly about yourself.

My husband and I live on a farm southwest of Shenandoah.  I have two children.  My daughter, Jessica, is 23 and my son, Jonathan, is 21.  Both are in college now.  I work in data processing at Bank Iowa in Shenandoah.  Both my husband and I were very active in 4-H as were our children.  My husband farms and also has a cattle feedlot operation.  I belong to the St. John’s Episcopal Church in Shenandoah where I serve as Senior Warden and Treasurer.  I am the Communications Superintendent for the Page County Fair.

1. Why are you interested in serving on the Iowa Association of County Extension Councils Board of Directors?

I know from my involvement with the Iowa Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts that having a state wide organized group of elected officials has political clout.  We need to start using that clout to our advantage to help secure continued funding for county extension programs.

2. What contributions do you feel you could make to this association?

Ideas, experience and leadership to help develop this organization into one that can help all extension councils develop better programming and secure more funding.

3. What types of experiences have you had on your extension council?

I am the treasurer.  I was involved in the selection of our county extension director.  I am on the budget committee.  I have participated in two IACEC Legislative Days at the State Capital.

4. Please tell us briefly about yourself.

I am the District Conservation for the USDA NRCS serving Harrison County.  I have worked for NRCS for over 30 years.  I have also worked for NRCS in Plymouth, Woodbury, and Jasper Counties.  I also worked out of our area office in Shenandoah which served 14 counties in SW Iowa.  I also farm my parent’s farm in Plymouth County.

I am involved in the Grand Knight of Logan Knights of Columbus, Treasurer of the Harrison County Farm Bureau, and Treasurer for the Harrison County Extension Council.  I am a member of the following organizations:  Logan Kiwanis club, Harrison County Corn and Soybean growers, Harrison County Cattlemen’s, and Soil and Water Conservation Society.  I am married and have three grown children who were active in 4-H.

2.  What contributions do you feel you could make to this association?

I have been on the Cass County Extension council and the Youth Action Committee so I know what some of the questions people have are.  I try to stay objective and listen for all opinions and try to solve things logically.

3.  What types of experiences you have had on your extension council?

I am currently Secretary, have been on the Program Committee.  I have also attended many state meetings and ICN discussions.

4.  Please tell us briefly about yourself.

I have been a 4-H leader for 13 years, served two terms on the Youth Action Committee, am building superintendent for the Cass County Fair.  I have two daughters, the oldest lives in Mesa, AZ with her husband and 3 children.  Sondra is a senior at CAM High School.  I am very involved in my Church as I am Youth Director, Jr-Sr. High Sunday School teacher and I have led two mission trips to Slidell, LA.
