Adair County Saves: Helping Families Build Wealth, Not Debt
Detail how your county will market this program to inform potential participants. The goal is to reach two new audiences: parents of kindergarten children and women whose incomes have declined due to life changes (i.e. divorce, death of spouse, loss of job, retirement)
Local schools have agreed to allow the council to send home information in Friday folders to all K parents. In addition, a group of young parents who have been involved in the Horizons program have agreed to make phone calls to families with of kindergarten students to invite them. Traditional media sources will also be used including local radio and newspaper.
Reaching women who have experienced recent life changes is a little more challenging. Each council member has agreed to identify at least 3 potential women participants. Each will receive a letter and a follow-up contact from a council member. In addition, Adair County Home Care (public health) and ministers will be asked to share the information
Describe the new clientele that this program is intended to reach. How does your council envision this program will interest this clientele? (see above for the audiences) Parents of kindergartens are a prime group to help build emergency funds since many of them are still working at entry level jobs and have little cushion. They are concerned about meeting their immediate needs, but also want to look to the future including financing their child’s education.
As part of the Horizons project a number of Council members have heard from women, especially those who are recently divorced about their struggles financially. Basic ideas of how to reduce debt and build savings for emergencies is of high interest to this group.
How does your council plan to utilize the mini grant? a. direct recruitment efforts including printing and postage a. teaching supplies including ISU publications and resources b. mileage for field specialist presentation c. to remove barriers for participation by providing free child care and a light supper
