Enjoying Life – Staying Healthy (an Extension program for Older Adults)
Detail how your county will market this program to inform potential participants. Beyond normal Newsletter and Newspaper articles one of the key promotional aspects of the program was a strong presence during Senior Citizens Month (March) and along with that at the annual health fair in Sigourney. Our repeated programming at Senior Centers during that month and an attention-grabbing display at the health fair would highlight both the program and Iowa State Extension.
The Center piece of the Health Fair Program is the
Universal Design Trailer and presentations by State Specialist Mary Yearns. The
trailer illustrates ways that people can design and build homes that will have
value and style yet will be useable by both the young and old. It is a
curriculum that has appeal to Older Adults, Caregivers, and to anyone building
or remodeling a home and looking to add value and insure that it will be useable
for years to come. Describe the new clientele that this program is intended to reach. How does your council envision this program will interest this clientele? This program will highlight Extensions ability to meet programming needs for a more varied audience. This will extend our reach to a wide range of clientele from Older Adults to Families building or buying their first house.
How does your council plan to utilize the mini grant? Costs for the trailer are approximately $700, the mini-grant and local donors will allow us to charter the trailer. Our plans are that we will receive other local donations, if these are achieved the remaining funding will be used for Radio and Newspaper Advertisement of the event and for pamphlet purchase or reproduction.
